"The moment when a vision is most familiar."

Tom became a photographer during his sophomore year of college while majoring in geology. That was when his dad gave him his prized first camera: an Olympus OM-1. His love of photography and passion for earth sciences have been intertwined ever since.

The images he creates reflect his dual obsession of the earth and water with an emphasis on the patterns and textures of rocks and sediments and the boundaries between earth, water and light. These natural interactions also have a powerful influence on his images of people and their creations. He strives to capture people during their most relaxed and authentic moments, anticipating the moment their most interesting qualities will emerge.

Tom loves the power, complexity and beauty of nature and is in awe of the interconnectedness of the world. He invests himself as an active participant in every subject he photographs, and he does his best work when fully immersed in the process of planning, traveling to and experiencing the wonder of the environment around him. This can often mean spending long hours in the field ― wet, cold and muddy but exhilarated. The fact that he produces some of my best work in these challenging conditions is fundamental to his art and personal reward.

His ultimate goal is to present fine art photographs that reflect the world, bringing all of the elements together into one consistent, honorable and uncompromising vision that conveys his feelings of the moment ― when a vision is most familiar.
